Methodology

Access, licensing and citation

Access tiers, what each dataset's licence means, and the citation format for datasets and records.

Updated Sep 1, 2026

Access tiers

Each dataset is published under one of three access tiers, stated on its catalogue page:

  • Open. Browse, download and query without an account, under the licence stated on the dataset page.
  • Registered. Free, but requires an account. Intended for larger downloads and API access where usage needs to be attributed. Not yet in operation.
  • Licensed. Available under an agreement. Intended for products that combine open records with QinMetrics analysis, or that carry service commitments. Not yet in operation.

Early datasets are open. The tiers exist so that the platform can add registered and licensed products later without changing how open datasets are addressed or cited.

Licences

Each dataset page states the licence its records are released under and the terms of the sources it was built from. Where a dataset page does not yet state a licence, the dataset has not been released.

Citing a dataset

QinMetrics, <Dataset title> (release <version>), retrieved <YYYY-MM-DD>, https://qinmetrics.com/data/<slug>.

Citing a record

QinMetrics, <Dataset title>, <record type> <slug>, release <version>, retrieved <YYYY-MM-DD>, https://qinmetrics.com/<path>.

API

The API page documents the endpoints, response shapes and versioning policy. Open datasets are readable through the API without a key; rate limits and keys will be introduced with the registered tier.
